From Roma take the Autostrada A12 in the direction of Civitavecchia, then continue on the S.S.1 Aurelia towards Grosseto until the sign for Manciano/Saturnia.
From Manciano continue to Poderi di Montemerano. From Grosseto take the S.S.1 for Rome until Albinia. Follow the signs to Manciano (S.S.74), then towards
Poderi di Montemerano. On arrival at Poderi di Montemerano take the first turning on the left (you’ll see the sign), then left again until you get to the top of the hill.

Four kilometres from Le Macchie Alte is Montemerano, famous for its perfectly preserved mediaeval centre. Two kilometres to the South, Manciano is a typical small town of rural Tuscany, with a full range of services and a splendid fifteenth century stronghold to visit. Twenty minutes away by car are the archaeological sites of Sovana, Sorano and Pitigliano. The beaches of the Argentario or Lake Bolsena are not much further afield.
But if you come here, you cannot afford to miss the Thermal Baths of Saturnia where Cicero bathed – and you know how much the Romans appreciated the good things in life. The place is as glorious as ever and a dip in its warm waters (37°) at any time of year is a pleasure all must enjoy at least once.
